I love how players only place value on an item only if it sells for more than 100k. Whatever happend to using the weapon for what it's intended for instead of just as a means for getting virtual gold?
Complaining about greens being worthless when they're supposed to be items that make it easier for players to get decent weapons with max stats and mods is completely missing the point.

In theory they can be replicated with collectors items yes but first you'd need to collect the items needed to exchange for the item and second you'd need to find the perfect upgrades to make the item.
I've got a "Rago's Staff" replica now with the exact same stats made from a collectors staff and the correct (perfect) mods but damn, the amount of times you get a +1 fire magic (20%) to drop for you is a lot less then the amount of times you can get Rago's if you constantly farm him.
For me, I collected the greens I wanted this weekend not to sell but to use for heroes, they're pretty much perfect items for free and with this weekend getting them was as easy as its ever going to get.

Precisely. Heroes alone with create demand for all items of high utility.
The Scar Eater, for example would seem to be the perfect healing staff for a Monk Hero.
So what is the argument that suggest Nightfall will render greens worthless?

This seems to presume that everyones benefit from a game is static, meaning what makes the game fun for you also makes the game fun for someone else.
I'd suggest this such a presumption is not correct.
Farming is an experience divergent from much of the other game content, and not an unpleasant one. I'd think that the more ways there are to have fun playing a game, the better the game.

I was really hoping this 3x weekend would let me buy some pricy greens at a low cost... didnt work out- they still were selling at high prices.
When it comes down to Greens... Some greens, now matter how rare or common will always be worthless. "WTS Milas Pillar 1k????? ANYONE?" Some greens, such as Rago's set... while not being quite the 100k+ as when it first came out, It will always sell high.
But the fact of the matter is for a noob earth ele- a Milas Pillar is going to be your cheapest fix and if you got nothing else going it will last you quite a while... easier than any earth collector staff and the Health and Energy mods themselves make it worth more than it will ever sell for.
One thing to keep in mind, is that there will be plenty of people playing professions that they havent before in addition to NEW PLAYERS who will play every profession!
If anything I expect to sell my Milas Pillars for 5k each when Nightfall comes out.
Another thing to keep in mind, is that there will be a much higher demand for EVERYTHING with peoples' heros. There will be an enormus influx of prices during the first month or so of Nightfall, and I dont think anyone at all, including the Devs themselves, will have any reasonable way to predict the end result (we will see in mid-december when things start to even out).
Plus, no one will want to buy something that is advertized at less than 10k if they want "good stuff" anyone with money to burn will look for things that are supposedly worth more. My advice- spam "WTS Victos Blade 50k" starting next weekend.
Its quite understandable that people who hoarde the perfect rare golds are quite leery about all of this, however for the common (anet says the average player has 20k gold) players this is very exciting indeed.
Good thing I have the preorder kit for nightfall, because you can bet your assassin that a +5e Spear and a max Scythe will be very very very rare to see during the first month or so that the game is out. I cant imagine the price for ANY green scythe to be under 100k for quite a long time.
I think the undeniable bonus to all of this controversy is that the average player will have more options to customize their characters, and no one can say that is bad.

Greens are not going to be worthless. It will be around the same price. All that will happen is that instead of the weapons being expensive now it will vary on the skin. The MODs & Inscriptions are going to be more expensive. People will be looking for the popular mods like
health +30
Sundering 20/20 ( /rolls eyes)
enchanting
zealous

I never understood why PvE people want +30 health mods so much. +5 armor mod is way way better in pve.

Just a question, Why are the most expensive greens, Victos axe, Dragos Flatbow, Kanaxai edge, Urgoz, etc always have the damn sundering 20/20 mod?

Because you do alot more damage with a sundering mod, especially with 15^50 and the 20% you get from customizing.
So I guess thats why they're in high demand

Its because sundering gives out bigger pretty damage numbers and gives the illusion that it helps do the most damage. This is obvious because not everyone go an look up damage mechanics and forum opinions.
The same apply with fortitude mods since +30 is obviously "bigger" than +5 (armor) and people don't really know the mechanics about armor that pretty much make both of them equal depending on the situation.

its for easier port into pvp ... the plus health sometimes help catch spikes better as well as providing extra health lost from runes.

Yeah, because +5 armor is such a help against degen
Armor can be boosted by nearly every class combination in some way but boosting health is a hell of a lot harder for most classes. +HP is usually (but not always) the better and more versatile choice.
It all depends on where you go and with what, +30 hp also goes a fair bit towards mitigating the use of superior runes ofcourse.

Well I am a happy little camper after the weekend.I like greens on some chrs and collectors on others.Picked up some good items for my heroes in NF.
I farmed some also. That is my reason for farming anyways.I farm to get items for my chrs.I know that is a silly reason but it works for me..)

Most likely not. Some Greens are still worth loads, most aren't worth much.
This is pure speculation at this point. This thread isn't really going anywhere, and besides Nightfall will be out soon and then we can all see what happens.
Anyways we all don't need another speculation thread about prices of Golds and Greens come Nightfall, just like no one can speculate anything we're all unsure about.
Closing.
